Born and raised in California, I moved with my family to North Carolina in 2009.
I have two kids, one of whom (10) likes to hide in suitcases, collect candy wrappers and cardboard boxes, and eats only white foods. She often thinks she’s a cat. The other (7) likes to make techno music come out of his mouth and smashes into neighboring furniture–or whatever happens to be within 20 feet of him. I married in 2003, divorced in 2013, and I do not let this define me. I have an MA in Counseling Psychology (2006), a BA in Art (1998), and a Certificate as a Nutrition Consultant (2007). I spent years and years in therapy, so that I could make myself talk about all the things I didn’t want to.

Mindfulness, compassion, and forgiveness are my aspirations. They are also my practices, since you have to practice anything you want to do well. I wish I could say I do yoga daily, but I mostly do standing abs in the bathroom when no one is looking. I like to sing musicals; I watch too much sci-fi; and I have two cats, one of which is the tiniest grown-up cat I’ve ever known. She wears black eyeliner and is the bad-ass alpha cat of the house. She keeps me sane. So she tells me.
